Milton, MA – February, 2026 – Axis Construction Corporation, an award-winning leader in conventional and off-site modular commercial construction for the Northeast, completed installation of a 7,525 square foot modular Emergency Department expansion at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton. The install of 24 modules delivered a dried-in structure encompassing 19 outpatient rooms in just days, avoiding the negative impacts of the record-breaking snow and cold that have blanketed the entire Northeast.
“The winter weather that New England has been experiencing would have caused real problems for a conventional, site-built project. But this modular expansion has gone off without a hitch, thanks to the inherent advantages of off-site construction,” says John Buongiorno, Vice President, Modular Division of Axis Construction. “We’re haven’t lost any days to weather delays, safety concerns about slippery snow, or spoilage of materials. We continue to be right on schedule to open months sooner than would have been possible with conventional construction.”
This is the second modular Emergency Department expansion Axis has constructed for Beth Israel Deaconess Hospitals. The first Emergency Department expansion deployed in Plymouth, MA was such a resounding success—providing an accelerated schedule, faster completion, dramatically reduced operational disruption to the existing ER, minimal site impact, and substantial budget savings—that off-site modular was an easy decision for the facilities team at Milton.
